In many people’s worst fears come to life, 14 pythons were set loose after being taken from a home south of Augusta.
The owner of the snakes, Jacqueline Helm, said she believes they were taken and set loose by someone she knows in retaliation, according to media reports. She kept the ball pythons in secure cages but was moving when the snakes were taken.
Ball pythons are not harmful, but deliberately releasing pythons is illegal.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said two of the pythons have been found in the area. The DNR has talked with the suspect, who told them he released the rest of the snakes in a remote area off I-20 in South Carolina.
