The Fayette County Water System is flushing hydrants in some areas where discolored water resulted from a routine pump testing on Tuesday.

Work being done at the South Fayette Water Treatment facility by engineers from CH2M caused minor flow changes in the water. A notice issued by the county said that the discoloration is caused by trace levels of manganese, but is not a health risk and the water is safe to drink.

Anyone with concerns can call the water system at 770-461-1146, option 5.
