Pro pool player killed in Tennessee wreck

A 66-year-old pro billiards player from Acworth was killed early Sunday in a one-car crash in Knoxville.

Witnesses told police Wade Arlyn Crane crossed three lanes of traffic and struck the right concrete retaining wall in a 2000 Volkswagen, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.  The vehicle then crossed back over five lanes of traffic and hit the center concrete retaining wall, according to the report.

Police believe Crane may have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash. No other vehicles were involved.

Crane, a former world 8-ball and 9-ball champion, was a self-taught player known by the name "BoomBoom," according to the International Pool Tour website. He is the only player in history to shoot a perfect score in the finals of a major tournament, a record that has stood for 21 years, the website states.
