A private memorial service will be held in Plains for Jeremy Davis Carter, the 28-year-old grandson of former President Jimmy Carter.

Jeremy Carter died Dec. 20 and was cremated, his online obituary states. Carl J Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City handled arrangements.

Carter was found unresponsive while taking a nap at his family's Fayette County home and later died at a hospital. Hours later, 91-year-old former President Jimmy Carter told his Marantha Baptist Church congregation his grandson had died. He arrived about 25 minutes late to teach Sunday School.

A day later, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the agency would not be conducting an autopsy on Jeremy Carter.

In addition to his grandparents, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, Jeremy Carter is survived by his parents Jeff and Annette Carter of Fayetteville; brothers Joshua Carter and his wife Sarah of Atlanta and James Carter of Atlanta; nephew Charlie Carter of Atlanta; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeremy Carter was first cousins with Jason Carter, a former state senator and the 2014 Democratic nominee for Georgia governor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rosalynn Carter Institute of Caregiving in Americus.
