The Powder Springs City Council split 2 to 2 Monday when voting by secret ballot for their mayor pro tem for this year.

Mayor Patricia Vaughn asked City Attorney Richard Calhoun if she could break the tie.

However, Calhoun told Vaughn this vote requires all of the council members to participate.

Instead Vaughn said the council will wait until the Feb. 2 meeting when Councilwoman Cheryl Sarvis is expected to be present.

Councilwoman Rosalyn Neal has served as the mayor pro tem for the past three years, presiding over council meetings in the mayor’s absence.

Neal serves as one of two at-large council members with her term expiring this year.
