Powder Springs police sergeants, lieutenants to get pay raises

The Powder Springs City Council voted 5-0 Monday to give pay raises to the city’s police sergeants and lieutenants.

City Manager Pam Conner noted “the inability to fill the position of sergeant for an inordinate period of time” and found “the recruitment of experienced and qualified sergeants stems, in part, from noncompetitive salaries contained within the existing pay plan.”

Conner recommended changing the pay range by an additional $5,500 for sergeant from $40,072 to $62,112 to a range of $45,572 to $67,612.

Lieutenants will receive an extra $8,000 from $44,179 to $68,477 to a range of $52,179 to $76,477.

These pay raises will take effect the first of November while pay raises for other police classifications will be reviewed next year.
