Until mid-May, two playgrounds at the Silver Comet Linear Park in Powder Springs are closed for installation of shade structures.

In September, the Powder Springs City Council awarded a $110,000 contract to USA Shade and Fabric Structures of Dallas, Texas to supply and install the shade structures at the park at 1301 Richard D. Sailors Parkway.

Funding is from the 2018 Community Development Block Grant program through Cobb County from the federal government.

One of the playgrounds was designed by GameTime for people with special needs.

To install this playground and American Disabilities Act features, the city received $52,696 from another Community Development Block Grant through Cobb County from the federal government and $126,738 from a Resurgens Charitable Foundation Grant.

In addition to the two playgrounds, the park has a concession stand, restrooms, a covered picnic area, a climbing structure, a covered basketball court, a covered area with exercise equipment and water fountains for people and pets.
