Potential Avondale development comes before architectural board

Plans for a potential mixed-use development in Avondale Estates comes before the architectural review board at 7 p.m. tonight at city hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza in Avondale Estates.

Early renditions from Trammell Crow Residential call for 290 units, probably apartments, in a five-story building and 5,000 square feet retail over a little more than four acres.

According to City Manager Clai Brown, the city staff has met with Trammell Crow twice but Monday is the first public presentation. No action will be taken, just a discussion, with the developer possibly coming to a city commission work session later this month.

The property is on U.S. 278 between Hillyer Avenue and Maple Street, next to the South City Partners project—197 apartments, 8,000 square feet of retail on three acres—that’s been underway for a year.

The property is owned by Joe Gargiulo, the same landowner who sold to South City, and who owns other parcels within the city.
