Folks in Milton must travel a little further to find a place like Wilbur & Rudy’s Farmtable.

Converted from an old general store, it had become a staple along Hickory Flat Road, offering wine, coffee, locally grown food, home decor and more to its customers. Its owners hoped to bring their vision of a farmer's market crossed with a coffee shop into a reality.

Less than three years into business, Ryan and Beth Bowersox — the owners of Wilbur & Rudy’s — announced that it will be closing in a letter to their friends and fans on Facebook. The company said it will host a farewell celebration with music and food on June 3.

“Without going into too much detail, it was a convergence of several events that forced us to question the validity of continuing operations,” the post reads. “After carefully examining all of our options, very sadly, closing down just made the most sense. The personal sacrifice that Beth and I made was tremendous and, in the end, continuing was just too much for our family.”

Out of 110 Facebook reviews, Wilbur & Rudy’s received a 4.9 out of 5 rating overall, and received just two one-star reviews ever. Recent reviewers said they enjoyed the coffee and barbecue sandwiches.

“Our amazing employees and customers made every day a joy. Without them and their support, we would not have made it this far,” the post read. “… We started out thinking it was a farmer’s market concept with a small coffee shop. We soon learned we had to evolve and grow in order to become profitable. We were constantly trying new things and did all that we could to make it work.”
