One man is dead and another charged with murder after gunfire erupted Sunday afternoon at a Hall County soccer game.
Silverio Acosta, 46, of Gainesville was killed, authorities said.
Hall sheriff’s Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said Acosta and suspect were both spectators at an adult league soccer game at Tadmore Park on Gillsville Highway in east Hall County when they confronted each other around 4 p.m.
“The perpetrator quickly produced a handgun and fired multiple times, fatally wounding the victim,” Wilbanks said in a e-mail.
“The perpetrator attempted to flee the scene, but was taken into custody by two Hall County marshals who were working security at the game,” Wilbanks said.
He said investigators believe the two men were acquaintances.
Saul Merdez Castillo, 41, of Gainesville, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
“The shooting apparently stemmed from a previous incident in El Salvador several years ago,” Wilbanks said.
