A Douglasville man was drunk and loud before being hit and killed by a train late Tuesday night, witnesses told police.

Nicholas Garner, 28, was killed when the train going through Douglasville hit him, Douglasville Police spokesman Lt. Brad Loudermilk said.

“Witnesses said they saw him very intoxicated and very belligerent,” Loudermilk said.

Police said Garner left his home and wandered toward the railroad tracks near the intersection of Mozley Street and Bankhead Highway.

Around 9 p.m., Garner had his fatal encounter with the train, Loudermilk said.

“A witness said they saw him walking in the middle of the tracks,” he said. “He made no effort to get off the tracks.”

The train stopped and was delayed about two hours while police investigated, Loudermilk said.
