A mother wants answers after police say her 7-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by a classmate.
Police are investigating but aren't saying much about this case because of the sensitive nature of the allegations.
The child’s mother wants to know how something like this could happen in a second-grade class.
“The whole class was there. Two teachers; not one, but two -- and no one saw it,” the mother told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.
She says she is outraged by what happened. She says a detective called her on Aug. 31 and told her a boy in her daughter's second-grade class at Riverside Intermediate School sexually assaulted her.
“I'm just upset because I don't know who this 7-year-old thinks he is to be introducing my daughter to sex,” said the mother, whom Channel 2 is not identifying in order to protect the child.
The mother says her daughter told her the boy threatened her repeatedly to get under a table, where the assault took place. She wants to know where the teachers were at the time.
“The teacher said she did not see it until the tail end of the incident,” the mother said.
Cobb County police declined to comment because of the sensitive nature of the allegations.
The mother says the school won't allow her daughter to transfer immediately, and she says no one has told her if the child was punished.
“On top of that, he's able to come back to school the next day, so who's to say he won't do it to another girl? I just want her removed completely from the school,” she said.
A representative for Cobb County schools said, “We are aware of an alleged incident at Riverside Intermediate School that is currently under investigation. As it is an active investigation, Cobb County Schools cannot offer any comment.”
