Alpharetta police have released the name of a Cumming man who died in a car crash near Haynes Bridge Road Wednesday.

Edward Kivlin, 67, died at the scene of the accident that happened on northbound Ga. 400, north of Haynes Bridge Road, according to police.

According to their initial investigation, police said a red Honda Civic left its northbound lane and struck Kivlin's maroon Nissan Pathfinder, that was traveling in an adjacent lane.

Both drivers lost control as their vehicles and slid into a grass median adjacent to the northbound Haynes Bridge ramp area, police said.

As the Nissan crossed the roadway, a white Dodge minivan traveling down the ramp to enter northbound Ga. 400 struck the Nissan,  causing it to overturn and travel down an embankment.

Kivlin died at the scene of his injuries, police said.

The driver of the Honda Civic was transported to North Fulton Hospital. The driver of the minivan was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
