Three Henry County schools started the school year with a 20-minute lockdown because two people were illegally hunting in the area, police said.
Eagles Landing High School, Eagles Landing Middle School and Flippen Elementary School went into lockdown around 10 a.m. Monday — the first day of school.
“We were alerted that there was something that would cause us to go into lockdown,” Henry County Schools spokesman J.D. Hardin said.
Police arrived and apprehended two suspects who were illegally hunting in a field near Tunis Road and Jodeco Road, according to Henry police spokesman Sgt. Joey Smith.
“The Department of Natural Resources responded and cited the hunters,” Smith said.
The suspects are not students in the Henry County School system, Hardin said.
Parents were notified of the lockdown and no one was injured.
