A man told Gwinnett County police voices in his head had warned him that there was a bomb in his car.

But there wasn't.

Gwinnett County police said Wednesday afternoon the area was clear and people could come back to businesses near a Bank of America parking lot at Sugarloaf Parkway and Satellite Boulevard that were evacuated two hours earlier.

Soon after bomb experts were called to the scene late Wednesday morning, police said they didn't believe there was a bomb but they were still "treating [it] as a valid allegation until proven otherwise."

Police said in an email a  man "suffering from some type of mental disorder" had been detained. His name was not available.

A Gwinnett police spokesman said the man was an AWOL soldier and would be picked up by the U.S. Army.

Banks County 0 mile sign is displayed on Old Federal Road, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Carnesville. The boundary between Banks and Franklin mysteriously moved to the east, allowing the Banks sheriff to claim he lives in the county and keep his job as the top lawman. (Hyosub Shin / AJC)
