The 26-year-old Atlanta man killed in a wreck on Bells Ferry Road may have been drowsy or fallen asleep, Cobb County police said Friday.

Carlton Todd was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango southbound on Bells Ferry Road, just west of I-75, when he crossed the center line into the northbound lanes, Officer Alicia Chilton said. The Durango collided with a 1999 GMC flatbed truck, causing the GMC to strike a Toyota 4Runner, Chilton said in an emailed statement.

Todd died at the scene of the Thursday morning wreck, which happened about 8:30. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured, police said.

“Investigators believe Mr. Todd may have experienced sleepiness or drowsiness while driving due to recent shift work and that may have been a contributing factor in this collision,” Chilton said.

The wreck remained under investigation Friday. No criminal charges are expected.

Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
