Snellville police collected 300 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs during last weekend’s take-back event.

The event, coordinated with the National Drug Take Back program, helped Snellville reach one ton of drugs taken back over the six years they’ve done it. The department has accepted and disposed of 2,049 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs, some of which could be potentially addictive or dangerous, since 2011.

The police department partnered with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Georgia campus for the event. Pharmacy students were on-site to advise people who were dropping off old drugs how to dispose of them properly in the future.
