Police have identified a body that a motorist discovered Tuesday morning in south DeKalb County.
Mark A. Elem, 47, was found dead in the roadway in the 5300 block of River Road around 6:45 a.m., DeKalb County police said.
“Foul play is suspected,” police spokesman Capt. Steven Fore said Wednesday, noting that Elam died of a gunshot wound.
Earlier Tuesday morning, three burglary suspects being chased by Atlanta police bailed out of their vehicle along River Road near where the body was located.
The bandits fled into nearby woods, and officers fired shots after one of the suspects pointed a weapon at them, but an Atlanta police spokesman said no one was hit.
One of the robbery suspects was later taken into custody.
Police initially speculated that there could be a link between the robbery and subsequent chase and the discovery of the dead body, but later ruled out any connection, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.
