This weekend's list of Atlanta sporting events is sparse, but a plethora of festivals will take up the slack.

The annual Taste of Atlanta festival runs through Sunday at Tech Square in Midtown, while on Saturday, Midtown will be the site of the Atlanta World Kite Festival at Piedmont Park.

Other festivals this weekend include the Smyrna Fall Jonquil Festival Saturday and Sunday at 2800 Atlanta Road in Smyrna, Saturday’s Cherokee Zombie Fest at Cannon Park in Canton, the County Living Fair being held through Sunday at Stone Mountain Park and the Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival scheduled for 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Kennesaw State University stadium.

Sunday morning’s Atlanta Marathon begins and ends at Atlantic Station, with participants running a route that goes through Inman Park, Virginia Highland and Piedmont Park.

The weather should be great for all those outdoor events, with no rain in the forecast. Morning temperatures will be colder than normal, in the low to mid-30s early Saturday and in the mid-40s Sunday, but afternoon highs will be in the 60s under abundant sunshine.

Ongoing road construction projects will likely cause delays on a few metro highways.

In Marietta, the North Marietta Loop will be closed all weekend for resurfacing between Cobb Parkway and Wallace Road. The ramps from I-75 to the North Marietta Loop will also be shut down all weekend.

The ramp from I-85 southbound to the Buford-Spring Connector will be blocked from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center recommends using Cheshire Bridge Road as an alternate route into Midtown.

Some delays could also be seen on the Downtown Connector northbound near 10th Street, where the right lane will be closed all weekend.

“The weather is supposed to be cold but dry, so we expect to work all weekend,” said Shun Pringle, metro district construction engineer for the state Department of Transportation.
