The Georgia Department of Transportation has a full slate of roadwork projects scheduled for this weekend across metro Atlanta.
Here’s what you need to know to avoid interstate lane closures that GDOT says will likely lead to delays:
Perimeter, I-20 again the hot spots
Concrete rehabilitation will shut down two northbound lanes of I-285 from South Cobb Drive to South Atlanta Road and two southbound lanes from Hollowell Parkway to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will also be working on overhead sign structures in both directions from Hollowell Parkway to I-20.
One eastbound lane of I-285 will be closed from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to Buford Highway from 7:30 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Sunday.
Work on Spaghetti Junction will close one lane of I-285 westbound and one southbound lane of I-85 all weekend.
Just north of there, one northbound lane of I-85 will be closed between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road from 10 p.m. Friday through 9 p.m. Saturday.
Resurfacing on I-20 in Rockdale County will close one lane in each direction between Ga. 20 and the Newton County line all weekend.
Closer to town, two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed from the Downtown Connector to Langhorn Street throughout the weekend for bridge joint replacement.
Weekend will be partly dry, partly damp
All of the road construction is weather-permitting, and the weather could delay some of the work on Sunday.
After a break from the daily deluge on Saturday, a better chance of rain returns to the forecast for Sunday.
Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said the chance of rain is 20 percent Friday, 10 percent Saturday and 30 percent Sunday, then ratchets up to 60 percent for Monday and Tuesday.
Afternoon highs will be in the mid-80s, with morning lows in the upper 60s.
