Traffic congestion outside North Fayette Elementary School will be alleviated by a project proposed by the Fayette County Board of Education on March 11.

After considering several options, the school system plans to install an extended traffic loop off the main entrance and parking lot so that car traffic doesn’t back up onto already busy Kenwood Road. Turn lanes will also be reconfigured. The cost for the project is estimated to be $430,708, with $175,564 coming from the school system and the remaining $255,144 coming from county funds.

The school board and county commission still need to finalize an intergovernmental agreement and approve the construction plan; installation is scheduled for this summer.
