Sandy Springs police are investigating an attack on pizza delivery driver that ended with shots fired and a brick through his windshield.
Investigators told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik it happened about 2 p.m. Sunday at the Park 225 Apartments on Roswell and Franklin Roads.
One woman, who asked not to be identified, told Petchenik she saw the attack.
“The pizza delivery guy came to deliver the pizza, and two young men were standing here,” she said. “The man was just trying to go up the steps, and he just bumped them, and they were in the way, and the next thing you know, they start calling him names, and the man was, like,‘I’m sorry.’”
Police said the argument escalated, and as the driver started to leave the complex, one man fired a shot into his car, while the other threw a brick through his windshield.
“He was shocked,” she said. “He was shocked when the guy threw the brick through his window, but more shocked that you were going to pull out a gun and shoot him.”
Police said they later recovered a bullet in the roof of the car.
“The bullet was lodged very close to where the victim was sitting in the roof of his vehicle, near the rearview mirror,” said Sgt. Ron Momon. “That could be a tragic situation.”
Jose Gonzalez told Petchenik he heard the shot and saw the attack.
“That’s horrible,” he said. “He’s trying to do his job, and that was an awful day for him.”
