The main lobby atrium at Grady Memorial Hospital was officially dedicated on May 8 as the Correll Atrium — honoring A. D. “Pete” Correll, who led the fight to save the hospital from closing in 2007. After chairing the Greater Grady Task Force formed by the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Correll went on to become the inaugural chair of the Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation Board of Directors. Upon completion of his tenure on the GMHC board in 2016, Correll became chairman of the board of the Grady Health Foundation, which raises private and philanthropic funds in support of the health system.

As part of the dedication ceremony, a portrait of Correll by Atlanta artist Ross Rossin was unveiled. The portrait will hang permanently in the Correll Atrium, along with a brief history of Correll’s work on behalf of Grady.
