One person was killed in a multiple-vehicle wreck that shut down I-285 northbound near Camp Creek Parkway around 5 p.m. Friday, the Georgia State Patrol said.

A 2001 Mercedes driven by Brittany Nicholle Stevens, 23, of Atlanta struck a 2007 Kia Sportage driven by 52-year-old Maria Njoku of Atlanta, the GSP said. The Kia then hit a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, knocking it into the path of a tractor trailer, where it was hit again.

A person in the Oldsmobile was killed. The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of the next of kin.

In addition to the fatality, at least four people were injured. East Point police assisted GSP at the scene, and traffic was affected for several hours.

The investigation into the crash is continuing and charges were pending, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said in an email late Friday night.
