Gov. Sonny Perdue on Friday appointed former U.S. Attorney Max Wood to become the next chief judge of the Office of State Administrative Hearings.

Wood, who served as the top federal prosecutor in Macon, sought to succeed Thurbert Baker as the state's next attorney general. But he lost the Republican primary.

Wood will replace Judge Lois Oakley, who retired. The office resolves disputes between the public and state agencies.
