A pedestrian struck and killed early Monday in southwest Atlanta was lying in the middle of the street when a Mercedes-Benz rolled over him, police said.

The accident involving a 1994 Mercedes-Benz C220 happened near Windsor Street and Castleberry Street, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.

The driver was traveling north on Windsor in the far right lane when the vehicle attempted to change lanes and hit the pedestrian lying in the center of the roadway, Jones said.

Police were called to the scene just before 4:10 a.m. The victim was declared dead on the scene.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner took the body for investigation.
