A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday morning on a busy Cherokee County thoroughfare.

Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, 19, of Canton, was struck shortly before 7 a.m. on East Cherokee Drive near Berry Patch Road.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Mitcheltree was walking southbound in the roadway when he was struck by a Chrysler PT Cruiser that was rounding a curve.

“The driver didn’t see the pedestrian in the roadway and struck him with the right front of the vehicle,” Wright said.

The driver of the PT Cruiser will not be charged, Wright said.

East Cherokee Drive was shut down for several hours after the accident.
