The Peachtree Corners City Council tabled a decision Tuesday on a proposed amendment to the sign ordinance that would prohibit signage on bus benches, bus shelters, and other street furnishings. Gwinnett County objected to the ordinance because they have a 10-year contract with a company that provides the benches. The city council asked the city attorney to look into the matter further before proceeding with a decision.

The proposed changes would include prohibiting signs on utility poles, trashcans, and bike racks, except “non-commercial, publicly owned, authorized or maintained signs which serve an official public purpose”.

Signs exempt from this new ordinance include signage on courtesy benches, trash receptacles, newspaper boxes, automated teller kiosks and phone booths located on private property and not exceeding eight square feet of sign area and not located within the required front yard setback for the zoning district.
