Retired U.S. Army Col. Bob Ballagh, executive director of the Peachtree Corners Veterans Monument Association, recently presented the city’s plans for honoring the U.S. Armed Forces to some 20 veterans, both men and women who now reside at Noble Village, an aging-in-place facility in Peachtree Corners.
The monument, which will feature a sculpture of an eagle atop a globe representing the presence of the U.S. Armed Forces across the world and six sculptures representing each of the Armed Forces and the reserve components, will be located on the town green of the city’s new Town Center. Chad Fisher of Fisher Sculptures is donating the sculptures.
“We are creating this monument for the community, to honor both those who have served and those who are currently serving our country,” said Ballagh.
Final cost for the 3,000 square-foot monument is expected to be nearly $500,000. The PCBMA has collected over $123,000 through donations and the sale of brick pavers.
Other features will include an interactive component to identify and recognize the services of Peachtree Corners veterans, stone benches, recognition of America’s significant wars and other military operations and the U.S., state and city flags. The PCVMA plans on holding a dedication ceremony in the fall of 2018 when work on the town center and monument is complete.
