Peachtree City has amended its ordinance regarding public comments at municipal hearings.

By a 5-0 vote on Oct. 18, the City Council approved changes to its procedures that will allow each speaker two (rather than the previous three) minutes to comment on a specific agenda item, with 10 minutes per side designated for zoning-related hearings and 10 minutes total for non-zoning matters. However, a majority of the council can vote to extend the comment periods based on the specifics of any given hearing.

Originally presented in August, the ordinance changes were enacted to “avoid repetition of [discussion] points, ensure that one speaker does not monopolize all the allotted time, and ensure that the business of the City can be conducted in a timely manner.”
