Peachtree City has modified its land development ordinance to allow developers to contribute to a “tree bank” as an alternative way of complying with regulations.

The city cited recent Planning Commission cases in which landscaping requirements for some developed areas were “impractical or impossible to fully meet.” If a particular site cannot accommodate the required amount of replacement trees, the developer can now donate to a fund that will allow more trees to be planted elsewhere in public areas. The amount of the donation will be based on the purchase and installation cost of the trees.

The City Council voted 5-0 Thursday to approve the change.
