The usually routine matter of appointing new members to the Peachtree City Airport Authority hit some turbulence during Thursday’s City Council meeting.

Although a selection committee composed of Mayor Vanessa Fleisch, Council Member Kevin Madden and City Manager Jon Rorie recommended two candidates from among four finalists, the mayor’s motion to confirm them failed on a 2-3 vote after Madden suggested switching which candidate would be the voting member and which would become the alternate. He and three other council members preferred having a tenant of the airport on the five-member board, while Fleisch and Council Member Phil Prebor strongly urged that the committee’s procedure be followed.

On a 3-2 vote, Kevin Lund was named as the new member and Max Braun was appointed as an alternate through 2023.
