Plans to replace the spillway on Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City moved forward recently.

Representatives from two engineering companies told the City Council that after evaluating seven possible designs, they recommend a three-tier “piano key weir” system that would meet maximum flood control standards, last up to 100 years and operate without mechanical devices that would require maintenance.

The project is estimated to cost $3.5 million and will be built between August 2017 and June 2018. The existing spillway will be demolished, and construction will require partial lowering of the water level.

The council agreed to proceed with the design.
