One trail segment in Forsyth County is to reopen after repairs by the end of the month, while work on part of another trail just started and will go for several months, according to the Parks & Recreation Department.

The trail near the entrance to Sharon Springs Park, 1950 Sharon Road, is being rerouted for a road widening, and part of the trail closed last week for that work as well as the installation of new landscaping to provide a buffer between the trail and the road. The project is to be finished in about 90 days. Martin Contractors is doing the $216,155 job, funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

Meanwhile, the Big Creek Greenway where it passes beneath Ga. 400 has been closed since May 31 but is on schedule to reopen Aug. 31. The trail segment is closed while C.W. Matthews, contractor for the Georgia Department of Transportation, adds one lane in each direction of the freeway between McFarland Parkway and Ga. 369.
