A new program in Fayette County is enlisting the help of kayakers and canoers to clean up local lakes. The Water Guardians group, to be led by county commissioner Steve Brown, will kick off with an event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. April 23 on Lake Kedron in Peachtree City, in connection with Earth Day. Volunteers must sign up by April 15 and will receive a free T-shirt. Participants must be over age 14, wear a life vest and sign a liability waiver. The county will provide snacks, bottled water, trash bags and trash grabbers to retrieve debris. The group also needs small jon boats to help bring full trash bags back to the boat docks.
