A 250-ton turbine rotor may cause traffic delays as it passes through the Atlanta area sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the oversize truck will depart from a weigh station on I-85 in northeast Georgia at 8 p.m. and head to Rome, where a General Electric facility that refurbishes turbines was recently opened. It will pass through Athens on Ga. 316 and later go around downtown Atlanta via I-285 to reach I-75 north, after which it will exit at Adairsville.

During its journey, the 266-foot-long, 571,000-pound load will reach a maximum speed of 45 mph and will require rolling lane closures, according to the Banner-Herald. The 18.5-foot-wide truck will be accompanied by a police escort for some lengths of the journey and highway message signs will inform drivers of the situation.
