There aren’t any players yet. But nearly 4,300 votes were submitted to name Atlanta’s expansion team in the Lingerie Football League.

Say hello to the Atlanta Steam.

After announcing Oct. 2 that the league's 12th team will be in Atlanta, the LFL began taking suggestions for the name of the team, which begins play in the spring. The team, which will join the Jacksonville Breeze and Omaha Heart in the league's Southeastern Division of the Eastern Conference, will play its home games at Gwinnett Center.

And even before a tryout is held for the Atlanta team, the league said Wednesday there’s been a lot of interest both in naming the team and from those hoping to sport the two-piece, tiny uniforms.

“The Atlanta name submission was one of the most successful team name submission responses of any LFL expansion market,” Tyler DeHaven, league spokesman, said in an emailed statement. “Additionally, LFL league offices have received greater interest from prospective players than in any other market in the history of the league.”

A tryout will be held Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Score Indoor on Oakley Industrial Boulevard in Fairburn, according to DeHaven. Those hoping for a spot on the roster should arrive an hour early, dressed in athletic gym attire.

Athletes will be tested on speed, agility, strength and focus, and hopefuls should also bring a photo of themselves to leave with league officials and the completed application and waiver forms. The application form gives those interested a chance to list their previous athletic experience, as well as any tattoos.

The majority of the players in the league are former or current college athletes, DeHaven previously said.
