Southbound lanes on I-75 in Cobb County are now open after authorities cleared a fatal multi-vehicle accident that occurred at Delk Road earlier Saturday.

Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said at least six vehicles were involved in the collision, and a seventh vehicle may have been involved but left the scene.

“It’s a very complicated scene,” he said.

Baldwin confirmed one fatality, a passenger in one of the vehicles who apparently was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car. He said a second person - the female drive of the same vehicle - was transported to Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries. Baldwin said a 6-year-old passenger in the vehicle was unharmed.

Baldwin said the vehicle apparently was struck by another vehicle, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle rolled over, he said.

Earlier in the day, four of the six southbound lanes were closed because of the accident, and Baldwin said traffic was backed up more than seven miles.
