A College Park police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

College Park police chief Keith Meadows said Sgt. David Hough, 31, was driving on I-20 in Covington about 5:30 p.m. when he lost control and hit a median. He later died at a local hospital.

Meadows says Hough was a shining star in the department.

Several officers gathered at Piedmont Newton Hospital Monday night after hearing the news.

“We’re sad because Sgt. Hough was just recently promoted to the rank of sergeant, and he was an up-and-coming officer in our ranks,” Meadows said. “We’re going to make it through it. We’re going to band together and we’re going to continue to serve the people of College Park.”
