Decatur’s commission adopted a tentative millage rate of 12 mills for, among others, general operations and capital improvements this week, down from the 2014 millage of 13. Commissioners, however, won’t vote on the final FY 2015 budget until their June 15 meeting.

Most of the capital improvements money, or $1.5 million, will go towards improvements to McKoy and Oakhurst Parks. Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon said the bathrooms, pavilions and concession stands at each park will get extensive renovations or completely rebuilt. Planning and design should start shortly after the budget’s approved, but there’s currently no timeframe for the entire project.

“The hardest thing,” Saxon said, “if figuring out when to do the work since the parks stay active year-round. I’m anxious to get going because the improvements have been needed for a long time.”
