A portion of Oak Road in Snellville will be closed April 2 - 10 in an effort to improve pedestrian safety when accessing the Towne Green. The closure will coincide with Gwinnett County Public Schools’ spring break and will allow for construction of a raised and lighted crosswalk. Oak Road will be closed from the entrance of city hall to Ga. 78. The city hall entrance will be open most of the time.

“The road is being closed to provide workers with the safest construction environment and to provide the contractor with the best opportunity to provide the city with the fastest and best construction solution,” Economic Development Director Eric Van Otteren said.

Police Chief Roy Whitehead is asking people to avoid Oak Road as much as possible and use Clower Street as an alternate.

The construction is part of the Towne Green renovations to upgrade the space used for festivals and the Farmers’ Market. The Towne Green project should be complete by May 1.
