In a recent special called meeting, the Norcross City Council unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County to lease the land where a fire state museum, welcome center and community garden are located along Lawrenceville Street in downtown. The agreement consolidates two previous agreements into one.
The new 50-year lease allows the city to continue operating the facilities on county-owned land through 2066. The city will pay the county $1 per year for the lease.
The city is in the process of expanding the new Discovery Garden Park next to the Welcome Center. The Fire Station Museum is adjacent to the current Gwinnett County Fire Station No. 1 and contains a restored fire truck previously used by the Norcross’ volunteer fire department.
