Norcross will celebrate its Christmas tree lighting with visits from Santa Claus and a group of Disney princesses.
The city’s Christmas tree will be lit in Thrasher Park on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m., and Norcross First United Methodist Church will provide live music. There will be free hot cocoa and cookies for attendees, and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be played on a big screen, visible from the line to meet Santa. A group of Disney princesses will also be at the celebration to take photos and visit with families, a city release said.
The city will also be collecting personal care items like shampoo, soap and deodorant for the Mayor’s Motorcade, a charitable effort that will provide the items to state mental health hospitals.
The Dec. 1 celebration will kick off the city’s holiday festivities, stretching nearly through Christmas. Carriage rides will start at the tree lighting and continue through Dec. 22. You can take a ride from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings before Christmas. You can catch a ride in front of Taste of Britain, located at 73 S. Peachtree St.
Santa will be available for free photos at the Christmas tree lighting, and photo packages will be available starting at $20 for the following nine nights. Santa’s sleigh is located outside the REMAX office at 19 Jones St.
The city’s First Friday concert series will host Deb Bowman and the Big Love Band for a free “holiday cabaret” at the Norcross Cultural Arts Center at 7 p.m. Dec. 1. The next day, you can partake in Norcross’s Holiday Tour of Homes and Candlelight Tour. the Holiday Tour of Historic Homes runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Candlelight Tour runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Both meet at Norcross City Hall and cost $30.
