Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park now has a nonprofit organization, the Friends of Kennesaw Mountain, to aid its efforts in visitor services and visitor satisfaction.

The agreement between the park and the organization recently was finalized and signed, according to a news release.

The Friends of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (Friends of KMNBP) has as its mission to raise funds to support programs and projects at the federal park, 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive, Kennesaw.

Overseen by the National Park Service, the park is a 2,965-acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign.

Opposing forces battled there from June 19, 1864 until July 2, 1864.

The nonprofit group’s long-term goal is to establish endowments to provide perpetual sources of funding for the programs.

Among those programs are hiking/equestrian trail improvements and maintenance, museum improvements and expansion, living history demonstrations, additional parking, more restrooms and guest speakers.

Rack cards with information about the Friends of KMNBP are available at the park’s kiosks at all major parking lots within the park.

The rack cards feature a QR code which takes visitors directly to the organization’s website at FriendsOfKMNBP.org.

The Friends of KMNBP can be viewed on various social media sites at facebook.com/FriendsofKMNBP and Instagram at Friends of KMNBP (@friendsofkmnbp).

A 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization, the Friends of KMNBP offers annual memberships at all levels for those wishing to donate.

All funds received are put to use for and at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
