Nick Gordon’s lawyers are seeking a dismissal of the civil suit filed against him by the legal representative of his former companion, the late Bobbi Kristina Brown.
Brown’s court-appointed conservator, attorney Bedelia C. Hargrove, initially filed suit against Gordon in June, while Brown remained hospitalized, claiming physical harm and financial impropriety. The suit was amended after Brown died, adding a slew of new claims including the accusation that Gordon gave Brown a “toxic cocktail” and accused him of a “violent attack.”
In new court documents filed by his legal team, Gordon stipulates to a few basic points spelled out in the lawsuit: He used to live in Fulton County (he lives in Florida now), Brown was 22, they quarreled prior to the medical incident and he attempted CPR when she was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub. He denies the many more serious claims levied against him and seeks a dismissal on numerous grounds — namely that the suit lists damning allegations but no evidence.
The suit against Gordon “contains several unsupported conclusory, untrue, criminal accusations that (Gordon) committed acts that he simply did not do,” the response reads. “Plaintiff has not provided any evidence including but not limited to affidavits, police reports, indictments or any other documentation to support baseless claims made against (Gordon).”
The recent filings do resolve the legal status of Gordon and Brown: They “were never married,” the documents state. Brown frequently referred to Gordon as her “husband” in social media posts.
Brown died July 26, following months of hospitalization. An initial autopsy showed no obvious cause of death. She was taken initially to the hospital after the Jan. 31 medical emergency, then a long-term care facility, then a hospice, where she spent her last days.
The lawsuit filed on her behalf spells out a number of jarring claims that Gordon’s team has vehemently disputed.
“The recent lawsuit against Nick is slanderous and meritless,” his representatives said in a statement last month. “Nick has been heartbroken and destroyed over the loss of his love and it’s shameful that such baseless allegations have been presented publicly. Nick has engaged civil counsel and intends to defend the lawsuit vigorously and expose it for what it is: a fictitious assault against the person who loved Krissy most.”
Brown was buried next to her mother, the late Whitney Houston, after memorial services here and in New Jersey. Gordon did not attend, but his mother issued a statement at the time saying he was devastated.
