1. B. A 12.2-mile stretch of Interstate 75, mostly in Henry County, is scheduled to sprout new lanes that will be the state's first newly constructed toll road in 20 years. The project is among the most important the state will build in decades, because state officials hope it will reset public opinion on the principal plan for congestion relief in metro Atlanta: optional toll lanes.

2. A. In 1986, roughly 3.5 million people in 21 countries across Africa and Asia contracted the Guinea worm. That was the year The Carter Center launched a global campaign to eradicate the disease, which is spread through contaminated water. Last year, there were 542 reported cases. So far this year, thanks largely to the efforts of the center, the CDC and the World Health Organization, the tally is seven.

3. D. A rain drought and then a drought of the funding variety kept the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from presenting its popular free concerts in Piedmont Park for five years. But the ASO and its new partner, the Piedmont Park Conservancy, plan to present a two-concert "Performance on the Promenade" series May 17 and 23. But instead of playing on the expansive lawn off 10th Street, the concerts will take place on the Promenade. The recently reclaimed area is in the park's northwest corner, adjacent to the Legacy Fountain area where Georgia Shakespeare relaunched its own series last summer and close to the parking deck beside Atlanta Botanical Garden.

4. C. The Georgia Lottery board set inaugural rules recently under its new power to regulate video poker and other coin-operated gambling machines. In an effort to strictly regulate the machines, businesses must register them and prevent prohibited cash payouts. The machines are allowed to award lottery tickets and vouchers for store merchandise only as winning prizes.

5. C. Biumi, 48, of Cumming, was charged with aggravated assault in the April 9 incident at the McDonald's on Old Atlanta Road, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.
