Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services now has a new piece of animal rescue equipment, thanks to a local group’s fundraiser.

The so-called Becker Sling is a vertical lift system designed to extricate large animals that have fallen into holes, ditches, swimming pools and any place where they need to be moved quickly to a safer spot.

The Cherokee County Saddle Club started the drive after learning that the city had to borrow Milton’s equipment for horse and other rescues, and raised $1,600 for the Becker kit. The group said it will continue to raise money for similar equipment for the county department.
