A new southbound lane of a widened Ga. 400 in Forsyth County was to open in time for the morning rush hour Wednesday, July 11, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.
The new lane is between Browns Bridge Road (Ga. 369) and Peachtree Parkway (Ga. 141), officials said. Ga. 400 is getting an additional lane in each direction between Browns Bridge and McFarland Parkway, as well as widened bridges over Big Creek and Lake Lanier.
C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. began work April 15 and in December opened a southbound lane between Peachtree and McFarland. “Starting Wednesday, the entire widened corridor will be open for drivers to use,” GDOT said.
GDOT contributed $13 million to the project, and the Forsyth County Transportation Board, about $57.6 million.
The work is scheduled to be finished Oct. 31, with some concrete section replacement and final concrete grinding still to be done. Drivers will be alerted to weeknight and weekend lane closures as the work is scheduled, GDOT said.
