Kennesaw’s new mayor Derek Easterling began his four-year term Monday.

A retired U.S. Navy lieutenant, Easterling was sworn into office by State Rep. Bert Reeves, R-Marietta.

Easterling also has served as a Cobb County deputy sheriff and a security supervisor for Kennestone WellStar Hospital.

Also taking their oaths of office were Councilman James “Doc” Eaton by State Rep. Ed Setzler, R-Acworth, and Councilwoman Yvette M. A. Daniel by Cobb County Chief Magistrate Judge Joyette M. Holmes.

Eaton also was chosen the mayor pro tem by a 4-0 vote of the council.

Councilman Jimmy Dickens already has begun his term that lasts until 2017 since Debra Williams resigned to run for mayor.
