A new bridge has opened for Dawsonville Highway (Ga. 53) over the Chestatee River, a tributary of Lake Lanier on the Forsyth-Hall county line.

Construction partners of the Georgia Department of Transportation have shifted traffic to the new, two-lane, concrete-and-steel bridge and its approaches, and closed access to the old, two-lane, green steel truss bridge it replaced.

Scott Bridge Co. Inc. was awarded a $19.7 million construction contract for the project in March 2016, officials said. Still to be completed are final asphalt topping and additional grading to the new approaches. The project’s completion date of March, 2019 includes time for the demolition of the old bridge.
